This wiki provides a non-exhaustive summary of EdTech Tools used for teaching and course development in the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. Note that not all of the technologies listed below are centrally supported, meaning any assistance from the University (specific individuals, units, or otherwise) may be limited or non-existent. Although the focus of this wiki is on teaching in Math, it will likely be useful for all instructors.


Teaching Technologies

  • Akindi - A platform to administer and grade multiple choice exams.
  • Bongo - A tool that is integrated into LEARN, used to facilitate video assignments and peer review/evaluations.
  • Crowdmark - Grading platform for assignments, tests, and exams which supports image/pdf, text, and multiple-choice question formats. In-person assessment scanning supported by W Print.
  • iClicker - An in-class polling tool. See also Vevox and Mathmatize.
  • Jupyter Notebooks - A web-based interactive coding environment supporting Python, R and other languages and tools.
  • LEARN - UWaterloo's Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Markbox - Another platform to administer and grade multiple choice exams, developed by Science Computing at UWaterloo.
  • Mathmatize - An assessment and polling platform designed especially for math.
  • Microsoft Teams - Course instructors can request an MS Team with membership managed automatically by a LEARN integration.
  • Mobius - Robust content delivery platform and automated assessment tool, designed specifically for math.
  • MS Bookings - An online appointment booking tool ideal for online office hours.
  • Odyssey - UWaterloo’s exam management system which is integrated with Crowdmark and W Print.
  • Outline - UWaterloo's system for storing course outlines.
  • PebblePad - An e-portfolio platform.
  • PeerScholar - A platform for peer grading of student work.
  • Piazza - A discussion board that supports features such as polling, LaTeX editor, highlighted syntax, code blocking, and more.
  • Perusall - An online annotation tool, allowing students to collaborate while annotating text.
  • Qualtrics An online survey tool. Similar to MS Forms or the LEARN survey tool.
  • Vevox - Another in-class polling tool for active learning and audience engagement.
