Videos of previous lab experiments can be found on the UW Fluids YouTube channel. A sample is given below, along with some description.

Gravity Currents

Gravity Current into a Restriction

In this set of videos a salt-stratified gravity current enters a restriction (a barrier partially blocking the path). More details are provided in the video.

Non-Newtonian Gravity Currents

This set of experiments uses corn-starch to produce a non-Newtonian gravity current. The mixture is called 'shear thickening', since its viscosity increases in the presence of shear.

Vortices

Vortex Shedding

This video has great annotations explaining the physical processes involved in vortex shedding when a flow passes an obstruction.

Vortex Street

This video demonstrates flow passed a cylinder at different Reynolds number, including the formation of a Karman vortex street.

Other

Plumes: effects of rotation and stratification

This video illustrates the impact of rotation and stratification on injected fluid.
