There are two main types of ISW

  1. internal solitary wave (ISW) of depression - an internal solitary wave consisting of a single trough. If the ISW propagates to the right, the wave-induced currents are clockwise, and are anticlockwise if the wave propagates to the left.
  1. internal solitary wave (ISW) of elevation - an internal solitary wave consisting of a single crest. The wave-induced currents are anticlockwise if the ISW propagates to the right, and are clockwise if the wave propagates leftwards.
